Who We Are

We are a student-led organization dedicated to promoting and advocating for sustainability across our campus and the wider Troy community. SSTF provides a platform for collaboration and communication among students, faculty, staff, and administration who are passionate about creating a more sustainable future.

What We Do

SSTF works to integrate sustainability into all aspects of campus life, ranging from dining to research. We also strive to strengthen the relationship between RPI and the Troy community by collaborating with local businesses and organizations on sustainability initiatives.

Here are some of our key activities and goals:

  • Establishing an RPI Office of Sustainability: A primary goal is to advocate for the creation of an official Office of Sustainability on campus.
  • Hosting TerraCafe: Offering sustainability-focused meal options and engaging students in sustainable cooking practices in collaboration with other clubs and local vendors.
  • Developing a Sustainability Calendar: Creating a central resource for campus sustainability-related events and meetings from various organizations.
  • Collaborating with other student organizations: Partnering with groups like Sunrise Movement, Vasudha, Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW), Food Recovery Network (FRN), and others.
  • Organizing events and workshops: Including events like a Litter Bug Battle, Earth Week activities, and collaborating with other events like the BSA fashion show.
  • Our Indoor Garden: We are currently working on establishing an indoor garden on campus in the 87 Gym!

Our Purpose

Our Purpose, defined in our constitution:

The Student Sustainability Task Force is a student-led organization promoting and advocating for campus sustainability by providing a platform for collaboration and communication among various clubs, faculty, staff, and administration. The SSTF seeks to integrate sustainability into all aspects of campus life, including education, research, operations and culture. The SSTF also seeks to strengthen the relationship between RPI and the Troy community by working alongside Troy businesses and organizations to further sustainability efforts in the area. Another main objective of the SSTF is to serve as a platform for sustainability initiatives and projects which may not necessitate club formation in their own right. In this way, SSTF will function as a host organization for these student-led initiatives. .
